Couples Counseling

stop having the same argument and start actually hearing each other

We Need to Work on Us

You keep having the same argument. Different day, different trigger, same fight. You've said the same things to each other so many times you could recite each other's lines. And it's exhausting, not because you don't love each other, but because somewhere along the way you started speaking two different languages and nobody taught either of you how to translate.

Maybe one of you shuts down when things get tense and the other one chases, trying to get a reaction. Maybe you're both so used to holding things together, at work, for the family, for everyone else, that you don't know how to actually be soft with each other anymore. Whatever the pattern is, you're tired of it, and you want something to actually change instead of just cooling off until the next round.

A Lot of Couples Come to Me This Way

Many of the couples I work with reach out after one partner has already done individual work with me, dealing with burnout, with the pressure of holding everything together, with figuring out who they are outside of their title. And then their partner says something like, "I see you doing the work. But what about us?" That's real, and it's not a step backward. Couples work isn't starting over, it's catching the relationship up to who you're becoming.

What This Looks Like

This isn't about picking a side or deciding who's right. It's about figuring out the actual pattern that keeps showing up between you two, and building a different way to communicate that doesn't end in the same fight. Some of what we'll work on:

  • Naming the cycle you keep falling into, so you can catch it before it takes over

  • Learning how to actually hear each other, not just wait for your turn to talk

  • Rebuilding the sense that you're on the same team, even when you disagree

Sessions run 55 or 90 minutes, both of you in the room together. It's more direct than individual work, we're looking at the relationship as its own thing, not just each of your individual histories.
