Therapy for Black Men

Therapy for Black Men in Houston, Texas & Washington, DC

Man, let's be real for a second.

You're the one everybody calls. At work you're handling business, at home you're holding it down, and from the outside it looks like you've got it all figured out. But underneath, you're running on fumes. And nobody's asking if you're okay, because you've gotten real good at making sure they don't have to.

That's who I work with. I'm Brandan Vazquez, LPC, a Black male therapist licensed in Texas and Washington, DC, and WeUp Counseling & Consulting is built for Black men who are excelling at work and burning out everywhere else. Sessions are virtual anywhere in Texas and DC, with in-person Walk & Talk sessions in the Houston Metro area.

Who is this for?

Black men in high-pressure careers. Lawyers, doctors, business owners, educators, the ones who did everything right and still feel like something's missing. Maybe your partner says you're not present. Maybe you're exhausted and can't even name why. Maybe you've never sat across from a therapist who looks like you. Some of the men I work with have done therapy before. A lot of them haven't. Either way, you're in the right place.

What do we actually work on?

Whatever you're carrying. For most of the men I see, that looks like:

  • Burnout that's been building for years

  • Anxiety and depression hiding behind a packed calendar

  • Stress showing up in your sleep, your body, and how short you are with the people you love

  • Relationships that feel more like logistics than connection

  • The pressure everybody puts on you, and the pressure you put on yourself

  • Big transitions: a new role, a new city, becoming a father, losing someone

Underneath all of it, we're figuring out who you are beyond your title. And that doesn't stay in the room. When you can name what you're feeling, you show up better. Better husband. Better partner. Better father.

Why work with a Black male therapist?

Because you shouldn't have to explain your whole world before you can talk about what's actually going on. There aren't many men in this field. Black men, even fewer. Here you get someone who gets the culture, gets the pressure, and won't treat your success like it's the problem. No judgment, no side-eye. Just a real space to unload.

Is therapy online or in person?

Both. Individual and couples sessions are virtual and HIPAA-compliant, so you can log on from your office, your parked car, wherever you've got privacy, as long as you're 18 or older and located in Texas or DC. If you're in the Houston Metro area and sitting across from somebody isn't your thing, try Walk & Talk therapy. We get outside, keep moving, and talk it through side by side.

How much does therapy cost?

Here's the investment, no runaround:

  • Individual therapy (55 min): $225

  • Intake assessment: $225

  • Coaching session (50 min): $225

  • Couples counseling: $295 (55 min) or $355 (90 min)

  • Walk & Talk therapy (45-60 min): $250

Your first conversation is on me: a free 15-minute phone consult.

Do you take insurance?

I'm in-network with Carefirst (DC only), United, Optum, Oscar, and Oxford. Got out-of-network benefits? I'll send you a monthly superbill you can submit for possible reimbursement. A lot of the men I work with choose private pay anyway, because nothing goes to an insurance company unless you decide to send it.

Do I have to be a Black man to work with you?

Nah. My specialty is Black men, and everything here is built around that experience. But if you're ready to do the work, the door's open.

Who's Brandan?

I'm Brandan Vazquez, LPC, founder of WeUp Counseling & Consulting. I'm licensed in Texas (License #90945) and Washington, DC (License #PRC15434), with 10+ years in mental health. I'm a husband, and a Black man who knows what it's like to move through the world carrying what you carry. Outside the therapy room, I run a men's group, an in-person mental health clinician meetup, host The Buffet podcast, and speak on the hidden cost of holding it all together. Get the full story on the About page.
