The Ride Home

A 12-week virtual group for Black men who take care of everybody else.

Starts early January. Spots are limited.

What's good.

You know the moment. You pull into the driveway and sit there a few minutes before you go in. Engine off. No music. You're not avoiding anybody. You're tired, and it's the only time all day nobody needs anything from you.

The Ride Home is for that guy.

Over 12 weeks, a small group of Black men meets online to do three things:

  • Learn to read what's going on in your body and your head before it turns into shutdown or a snap

  • Build your own plan for the days you're running on empty

  • Practice saying what you need out loud, to yourself first, then to the people you love

This isn't a lecture and it isn't a venting session. It's real tools, real practice, and men who get it.

Why it's called The Ride Home

Every man reading this knows the driveway. You pull in, cut the engine, and sit there a few minutes before you go inside. Nobody is asking you for anything yet.

That stretch between the world and the house is the ride home. For a lot of men it's the only time all day that belongs to them, and they spend it getting their face right for whoever is waiting.

The group is named for that moment. The goal isn't to stay in the car longer. It's to make the ride home count: figure out what you're carrying, set some of it down on the way, and walk in as yourself instead of the version everybody is used to. Twelve weeks, and the ride gets a little lighter.

What we'll work on

This isn't a lecture series. Each week builds on the last, you get tools you can use the same night, and you practice them between sessions.

You might be a fit if

  • You're the one everybody leans on, and nobody asks who's holding you up

  • "I'm good" comes out on reflex, even when you're not

  • You go quiet or you snap, and either way it costs you at home or at work

  • Taking care of yourself keeps landing last on the list

  • You want to talk with men who get it, without having to explain it

The 12 weeks

  • Weeks 1 to 4: Know what you're carrying. We start with the weight you carry and who's counting on you. You learn to catch your own signals, in your body, your mood, your behavior, and your thoughts, before they turn into shutdown or a snap. We look at what gets in the way of taking care of yourself, and you build your own reset plan.

  • Weeks 5 and 6: Change the story. Learn to catch the story you're telling yourself in the heat of the moment and test whether it's true. Week 6 is a midpoint check on what's working.

  • Weeks 7 and 8: Say it out loud. Two weeks of practice saying what you need, setting a boundary, and handling conflict without going silent or going off. You try it in the group first, where it's safe.

  • Weeks 9 and 10: Where this started. We look at where your rules about being a man came from, and what it means to carry all of this as a Black man in the career and the world you're in.

  • Weeks 11 and 12: Put it together. Use everything under pressure, tighten your plan, and close with a way to keep it going and the brothers to do it with.

What you leave with

  • A clear read on your own warning signs

  • A reset plan for the days you're running on empty

  • Words for what you need, said to the people who matter

  • Tools for handling stress and conflict without shutting down or blowing up

  • A group of brothers who know what you're carrying

A word from me. I built this practice for the version of me that wished I had a therapist. I did the work and I'm still doing the work. This group is what I wish I'd had.
